In 2012, Royal Mail broke with tradition and gave more than a hundred of its iconic red post boxes a golden makeover.

The idea behind the paint job was to honour every Team GB athlete who had won a gold medal at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. An interactive map marks the location of each commemorative box.

Tennis player Andy Murray’s gold post box can be found just across from the cathedral in his home town of Dunblane.

Prone to magpie tendencies, I enjoy nothing more than musing – in pictures and in words – on a few of my favourite things.

what do you think?
