Spinning the Commonwealth

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games aren’t just about the sports and the medals – an extensive programme of arts and cultural events is also on offer under the banner of Festival 2014

The festival will be in full flow at venues across the city for the duration of the games and it really does have something for everyone. From music, theatre, dance, comedy and art to fan zones, street food, outdoor film screenings, ceilidhs and a flotilla along the river Clyde. Even better, admission to many of these events is free.

Over the weekend, a series of DJ sets highlighted music from across the Commonwealth as part of a celebration of all things retro:

Charity Shop DJ has travelled the world collecting the stories behind the music, and he is delighted to be in Glasgow to host Vintage Spins the Commonwealth. Through selected tracks and rare grooves, we will take you for a spin around the Commonwealth from ska to dub, to calypso, and on to Bollywood psychedelia, Ghanaian funk, Nigerian afrobeat, Cameroonian makossa and much much more!

Prone to magpie tendencies, I enjoy nothing more than musing – in pictures and in words – on a few of my favourite things.
