Raindrops on roses

So here’s the thing. The work-life balance got all thrown out of kilter for a while and dolittle felt the need to take a break from the blogosphere. But normal service has now resumed. Here are a few of my favourite things from the past few months.

The glitz and the glam of the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.

The daily commute was certainly a drag but I managed to lose myself in many a good book. Books

The Jack Vettriano retrospective at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

The Müller “rice, rice baby” bear.

Scottish Ballet providing a delicious new take on Hansel and Gretel in the run up to Christmas and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake still putting bums on seats in the new year.

Eating strudel with a side order of kirschen at the Edinburgh Christmas market after the long walk back from Murrayfield.

MusicMusic, music, music. Rudimental, Disclosure and the Chic Organization dominated the airwaves and my personal playlist.

Finally making it to the Edinburgh Tattoo. The appearance of a mariachi band and Joey from War Horse were both unexpected bonuses.

Seeing Joey again when the National Theatre took War Horse on tour.

Escaping the incessant rain in a spa hotel in the Scottish Borders.

Watching Jason Donovan strap on high heels and camp it up in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Beach, boats and bars. Chilling out in Tenerife with a view over Mount Teide.Flags

Going old school and buying Christmas presents from the actual shops rather than their virtual cousins.

Petula Clark singing Downtown at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Discovering the joy of a Clinique chubby stick.

Surprise treats at the cinema in the genres of action (Fast and Furious 6) and musical (Sunshine on Leith).

Who ate all the pies? A trip to the fitbah with the mister.

The revelation that Death in Paradise has actually been improved by the addition of Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman.

Glasgow nail polishStumbling across Mavala’s Glasgow nail polish in an independent chemist in Suffolk.

I like to be in America. West Side Story making a welcome return to the King’s Theatre.

The slightly deranged commentary on the Beeb when British snowboarder Jenny Jones won bronze in the slopestyle at Sochi.

And so much more…

Prone to magpie tendencies, I enjoy nothing more than musing – in pictures and in words – on a few of my favourite things.
