Whitelee windfarm

The turbines clustered around Whitelee windfarm seem like alien lifeforms that have taken root in the stark landscape of Eaglesham Moor.

With 140 turbines, Whitelee was hailed as the largest windfarm in Europe when it opened to the public in 2009. Accessed via the B764 – a narrow road that gives precedence to bikes over cars – Whitelee includes a visitor centre with interactive exhibits, a shop and a cafe. The viewing platform adjacent to the visitor centre is perfectly positioned for sweeping photo opportunities across the moor. There are also over 70 km of trails to explore on foot, bike or horseback. The habitat and ecology of Whitelee are carefully managed. If you’re lucky, you might see deer, curlews or even a merlin scouting for prey.

Prone to magpie tendencies, I enjoy nothing more than musing – in pictures and in words – on a few of my favourite things.
