St Clement’s drizzle cake

Oranges and lemons, say the bells of St Clement’s

So goes the first line of the old English nursery rhyme, which references several churches within the city of London.

Oranges and lemons were the undoubted stars of the zesty drizzle cake I baked yesterday morning for a family BBQ. I clipped the Jo Pratt recipe from the current issue of Your M&S magazine. You can pick up a free copy next time you visit any Marks & Spencer store. Alternatively, an abbreviated version of the recipe is available online from the Mail on Sunday.

To be honest, although the recipe was pretty easy to follow, my cake emerged from the oven a little singed around the corners and with a dip in the middle. No matter though—it still tasted really good. We had it with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
